Voth

The Voth are reptillian humanoids from the Delta Quadrant.  The Voth range in tones and colors from green to various shades of yellows and browns.

The Voth have a heightened sense of smell.  Their brain capacity is 22% greater then most other humanoids.

They have two defensive capablities.  They are able to shoot small quills from an their forearms.  The quills deliver a fast-acting chemical that will render another unconscious.  They are also able to go into hibernation by lowering their temperature and heart rate.

Voth society is governed by set of beliefs called the “Doctrine”.  This also maintains that the species evolved before any other sentient race did.  In fact, the truth is that the Voth evolved from the Earth dinosaur, hadrosaurs.

Humans and the Voth have one common ancestor.  The Eryops was an extinct amphibian life form that lived on Earth over 400 million years ago.  Eryops was the last common link between cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals on Earth.  Even after all the evolution, humans and Voth still shared 45 genetic markers.

Voth society is far from being a creative freedom one.  Professional advancement and an individual’s course of endeavor is controlled by numerous “Circles”.  Experimentation is only permitted by regulatory bodies which is allowed within approved boundaries.  The Ministries of Elders oversee these Circles.

They also maintain control of the populace.  It is very rare that mating takes place outside of his or her own “circle”.

Some individuals may have a certain degree of free speech.  Promoting unorthodox view is subjected to severe scrutiny.  They are judged if they are deemed to be too disruptive.

An exobiologist, Gegen, hypothesized in 2363 that his people evolved on another planet and migrated to the Delta Quadrant.  He developed this theory for the next 10 years.

He presented his findings to the Ministry of Elders.  The findings were met with outrage.  He was urged to discontinue his research.  He continued on with his research.  He eventually located the U.S.S. Voyager in 2373.  The Ministry of Elders refused to believe this.  They threatened to destroy Voyager if Gegen refused to denounce his theory.  He eventually did and Voyager was let go.
