Starfleet

 

Starfleet is a deep-space exploratory, scientific, diplomatic, and defensive agency of the United Federation of Planets (UFP).  It was formed in 2161 after the founding of the UFP.

Admiral’s Banquet- Annual Starfleet social function.

Advanced Tactical Training- Starfleet curriculum for specialized tactical and intelligence operations. Admission to Advanced Tactical Training required the recommendation of a superior officer.

Blue Alert- Aboard Starfleet starships with the ability to land, blue alert is a state of readiness for landing operations. Blue alert notifies the ship's crew to occupy Code Blue stations, and is ordered prior to the starship's landing on a planet and prior to liftoff. A starship commander should not order the start of descent until all decks report that condition blue has been set.

Christopher Pike Medal of Valor- Starfleet commendation given to members who acquit themselves honorably in the service of others.

cultural database- Archive of information stored in computers on Starfleet ships. The cultural database contained information pertaining to the rites and customs of all civilizations known to the Federation,

Directive 010- Before engaging alien species in battle...any and all attempts to make first contact and achieve a nonmilitary solution must be made.

Division of Planetary Operations- Section of Starfleet tasked with Earth-based functions and operations. DPO headquarters are located in Lisbon, Portugal on Earth.

Earth Station McKinley- Starfleet shipbuilding and repair facility in Earth orbit. McKinley Station is a large orbital platform supporting several large articulated work areas, designed to service even the largest ships.

Fleet Museum- Starfleet facility honoring people and vehicles that have gone where none have gone before.

gray mode- Starship operational protocols designed for severe energy conservation. In gray mode, power to nonessential decks and systems were discontinued, and remaining systems were operated at 20%.

Judge Advocate General- Starfleet office in charge of administrative law within Starfleet and its own personnel.

Jupiter Station- Starfleet facility orbiting the fifth planet in the Sol system.

Prime Directive- The Prime Directive mandates that Starfleet personnel are prohibited from interfering in the normal development of any society.

Red Alert- Aboard Starfleet starships, a state of maximum crew and system readiness. Red alert is generally ordered by a ship's commanding officer during a potential emergency, such as a major systems failure or a battle situation.

Regulation 476-9- All away teams must report to the bridge at least once every 24 hours.

Section 31- Secretive convert operations unit of the Starfleet Intelligence division.

Security Protocol 28, Subsection D- In the event of hostile takeover of a starship, the Emergency Medical Hologram is to deactivate and wait for rescue.

Starfleet Bridge Officer Examination- Battery of tests required in order to qualify to serve as a line officer in Starfleet. The examination is a requirement to earn the rank of commander. The tests include qualifications in diplomatic law, first-contact procedures, bridge operations, and engineering. The exam also includes measures of command ability.

Starfleet Cybernetics Journal- Scientific publication on artificial intelligence and advanced computer systems.

Starfleet Emergency Medical Course- Instructional class offered to Starfleet personnel. It prepared them to render aid in many medical emergencies, should licensed personnel not be available.

Starfleet Intelligence- Branch of Starfleet tasked with keeping the Federation Council and Starfleet Command informed of activities by alien power affecting the interests of the United Federation of Planets.

Starfleet Internal AffairsDepartment unit of Starfleet responsible for investigating allegations of wrongdoing by Starfleet personnel.

Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards- Starfleet shipyards in orbit and on the surface of planet Mars.

Yellow Alert- Aboard Starfleet ships, a state of increased readiness.
