Biography Geordi LaForge was born in The African Federation on Earth in 2335. He was born blind as a result of a birth defect. His condition couldn't be reversed by medical means. In 2340, he was fitted for an experimental prosthetic medical device (VISOR) which would allow him to see, but not in the way a normal human being sees. LaForge's parents were both Starfleet officers. He grew up traveling the stars with them. His mother, Silva LaForge, was assigned to an outpost along The Neutral Zone. His father, Edward LaForge was an exozoologist. LaForge decided to apply to Starfleet academy and began his freshman year in 2353. He graduated four years later in 2357. His first Starfleet assignment was piloting a shuttle on the Jovian Run between Saturn and Jupiter. It was on one of these shuttle runs that LaForge first met Captain Jean Luc Picard. In 2362, LaForge was assigned to
the U.S.S. Victory NCC-9754 under the command of Captain Zimbata. He was there
for about two years and then was assigned as flight controller to the U.S.S.
Enterprise NCC-1701D. LaForge was promoted to Lieutenant and made chief
engineer of the ship. The following year, in 2366, LaForge was promoted to
Lieutenant Commander. In 2373, Lieutenant Commander
LaForge received ocular implants which looked like normal eyes. He no longer
had to wear his VISOR. In that same year, The Enterprise NCC 1701-E was
commissioned and LaForge accepted the position of chief engineer and began his
service on a remarkable ship. In 2373, the Enterprise E followed a Borg sphere back in time to Earth on April 5, 2063. LaForge, along with many Enterprise crewmen, helped Cochrane to fix his ship in time to complete “first contact with the Vulcans”. William Riker and LaForge were honored to make the historic flight with Cochrane. Additional Pictures |
