Tawny Newsome was born on February 24, 1983, in Vacaville, California. She grew up on a ranch and later attended DePaul University’s Theatre School in Chicago, where she honed her skills in comedy and performance. She began her career with the Second City comedy troupe, performing in various theater productions before transitioning to television and film.

     Newsome gained recognition for her role as Chelsea Leight-Leigh in Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ and later starred in Brockmire and Space Force. She has also been a frequent guest on comedy podcasts such as Comedy Bang! Bang! and Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins. In 2020, she joined the Star Trek universe as the voice of Ensign Beckett Mariner in Star Trek: Lower Decks, a role that has made her a fan favorite.

     Beyond acting, Newsome is a musician and a member of the band Four Lost Souls. She has also co-hosted Star Trek: The Pod Directive, the official Star Trek podcast, alongside Paul F. Tompkins. She married Nate Urbansky in 2013.
