Sonequa Martin-Green is an American actress best known for her roles in
television. She was born Sonequa Chaunté Martin on March 21, 1985, in
Russellville, Alabama. Initially, she planned to become a psychologist but later
decided to pursue acting while in high school.
She went on to earn a theatre degree from the University of Alabama in 2007. Martin-Green gained recognition for her performances in The Walking Dead, where she played Sasha Williams, and Star Trek: Discovery, where she portrays Michael Burnham, the lead character. Before these major roles, she appeared in several independent films and had recurring roles in The Good Wife, Once Upon a Time, and New Girl.
She married actor Kenric Green in 2010, and they have two children together. In addition to her acting career, she has been an ambassador for Stand Up to Cancer, advocating for clinical trials and outreach in diverse communities.
