 James Montgomery Doohan, born March 3, 1920, in Vancouver, British Columbia, 
Canada, was a Canadian actor best known for portraying Montgomery "Scotty" Scott 
in Star Trek: The Original Series. His career spanned over five decades, and he 
was also a World War II veteran.

Canada, was a Canadian actor best known for portraying Montgomery "Scotty" Scott 
in Star Trek: The Original Series. His career spanned over five decades, and he 
was also a World War II veteran.
     Doohan grew up 
in Sarnia, Ontario, where he excelled in mathematics and science. In 1939, he 
enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery and served in World War II, 
participating in the D-Day invasion at Juno Beach. He was wounded by friendly 
fire, losing a finger, but continued serving as a pilot and artillery officer.
     After the war, Doohan pursued acting, studying at 
the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. He became a 
prolific radio and television actor, appearing in The Twilight Zone, Bonanza, 
and Gunsmoke. In 1966, he was cast as Scotty, the chief engineer of the USS 
Enterprise, a role that made him an icon. He reprised the character in seven 
Star Trek films and contributed to the development of the Klingon and Vulcan 
languages.
     Beyond Star Trek, Doohan appeared in 
The Bold and the Beautiful, MacGyver, and Knight Rider. He was married three 
times and had seven children, including Chris Doohan, who later portrayed Scotty 
in Star Trek Continues. He passed away on July 20, 2005, at age 85, due to 
pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease.
