Ed Speleers was born on April 7, 1988, in Chichester, England. He developed an
interest in acting at a young age, participating in school productions such as A
Midsummer Night’s Dream and Richard III. While attending Eastbourne College, he
wrote a play titled Retribution, which was performed at his school.
Speleers gained recognition in 2006 when he landed the lead role in Eragon, a
film adaptation of Christopher Paolini’s novel. Despite mixed reviews, his
performance helped launch his career. He later appeared in British television
series such as Echo Beach and Downton Abbey, where he played Jimmy Kent.
In 2018, Speleers took on the role of Stephen Bonnet, a ruthless antagonist in
Outlander, which further showcased his ability to portray complex characters. He
also starred in You (Season 4) as Rhys Montrose, a charismatic yet dangerous
figure.
Speleers joined the Star Trek universe
in Star Trek: Picard for the third season. He portrayed Jack Crusher, the son of
Beverly Crusher and Jean-Luc Picard. The character was heavily featured in the
plot of the season.
Outside of acting, Speleers
is involved in charity work and has run marathons for various causes. He is
married to Asia Macey, and they have two children.
