Denise Crosby, born November 24, 1957, in Hollywood, California, is an American
actress and model best known for portraying Lieutenant Tasha Yar in Star Trek:
The Next Generation and Commander Sela, her half-Romulan daughter. She has also
starred in Pet Sematary, Trekkies, and Ray Donovan.
Crosby is the granddaughter of Bing Crosby and the daughter of Dennis Crosby.
She studied theater at Cabrillo College but left after an interview revealed her
famous family background. She began modeling and posed for Playboy in 1979,
calling it an act of rebellion against the Crosby family image.
Her early career included roles in Days of Our Lives, 48 Hrs., Trail of the Pink
Panther, and Curse of the Pink Panther. In 1987, she was cast as Tasha Yar, the
security chief of the USS Enterprise-D, in The Next Generation. She left the
series after one season due to creative differences but returned for guest
appearances as Sela, a Romulan officer.
