Colm Meaney, born May 30, 1953, in Dublin, Ireland, is an Irish actor best known for portraying Chief Miles O'Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His career spans over four decades, with notable roles in Hell on Wheels, The Snapper, and Layer Cake.

     Meaney studied acting at the Abbey Theatre School and became a member of the National Theatre of Ireland, performing in Shakespearean and Irish plays. His television debut came in the late 1970s, and he gained recognition for his recurring role as Miles O'Brien in The Next Generation (1987–1994). He later became a main cast member in Deep Space Nine (1993–1999), appearing in 225 episodes, making him one of the most frequently featured Star Trek actors.

     Beyond Star Trek, Meaney starred in The Commitments (1991), The Snapper (1993), Con Air (1997), Layer Cake (2004), and The Damned United (2009). He also played Thomas Durant in Hell on Wheels (2011–2016) and Finn Wallace in Gangs of London (2020). His stage career includes performances in The Iceman Cometh, A Moon for the Misbegotten, and Juno and the Paycock.

     Meaney has been married twice. He was married to Bairbre Dowling (1977–1994) and Ines Glorian (2007–present). He has two children, Brenda and Ada Meaney. In 2025, he received the Irish Film & Television Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
