Barry Jenner was born on January 14, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was an
American actor best known for portraying Admiral William Ross in Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine and Dr. Jerry Kenderson in Dallas. He also had a long career in
television, appearing in Family Matters, Knots Landing, and V.
Jenner studied acting at West Chester University and began his career in
theater, performing in Club Champion’s Widow alongside Maureen Stapleton and Put
Them All Together with Mariette Hartley. He was a founding member of the Whole
Theatre Company, where he starred in Long Day’s Journey Into Night with Olympia
Dukakis.
His television career included roles in
Somerset (1974–1976), Another World (1976–1977), Knots Landing (1981), and
Dallas (1984–1986). He was also a frequent celebrity guest on The $100,000
Pyramid, winning the top prize on both the Dick Clark and John Davidson versions
of the game show.
In Deep Space Nine, Jenner
played Admiral William Ross, appearing in 12 episodes. He later voiced Ross in
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Dominion Wars. Outside of acting, he served as a Los
Angeles Police Department reserve officer for 21 years.
Jenner was married twice—to Susan Harney (1980–1990) and Suzanne Hunt
(2001–2016). He had two children. He passed away on August 9, 2016, at age 75,
due to acute myeloid leukemia.
