Andrew Robinson

     Andrew Robinson is an American actor, born Andrew Jordt Robinson on February 14, 1942, in New York City, New York. He studied at the University of New Hampshire and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from The New School for Social Research. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where he trained in Shakespearean theater.

     Robinson began his career in stage acting, performing in productions such as MacBird! and The Cannibals. His breakthrough role came in 1971, when he played the Scorpio Killer in Dirty Harry, a performance that made him infamous for portraying psychotic villains. He later starred in Hellraiser (1987) as Larry Cotton, Child’s Play 3 (1991), and Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings (1995).

     In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Robinson played Elim Garak, a mysterious Cardassian tailor with a hidden past as a spy. Garak became one of the most beloved characters in Star Trek, known for his cryptic dialogue and complex morality. Robinson reprised the role in Star Trek: Lower Decks (2024) and even wrote a novel about Garak titled A Stitch in Time.

     Beyond acting, Robinson has directed episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. He was also the Director of the Master of Fine Arts Acting Program at the University of Southern California.
