     Pill was raised in Toronto and attended 
Vaughan Road Academy, where she was part of the Interact program, designed for 
students interested in dance, music, athletics, and theater. Her father, a 
professional engineer, is of Estonian descent. Pill developed an early passion 
for acting and joined the Toronto Children's Chorus, where she was chosen to 
narrate a performance. This experience solidified her desire to pursue acting 
professionally.
     Pill began acting at the age of 
12, landing roles in TV movies and series. She appeared in Kung Fu: The Legend 
Continues, The New Ghostwriter Mysteries, and voiced Cornflower in the animated 
series Redwall (1999–2001). By her teenage years, she had already starred in 
multiple Canadian films, including The Life Before This (1999) and Jacob Two Two 
Meets the Hooded Fang (1999).
     Pill’s career 
gained momentum in the early 2000s, with roles in Confessions of a Teenage Drama 
Queen (2004) and Dan in Real Life (2007). She made her Broadway debut in The 
Lieutenant of Inishmore (2006), earning a Tony Award nomination for Best 
Featured Actress in a Play. She continued her theater success with Blackbird 
(2007), Mauritius (2007), The Miracle Worker (2010), and Three Tall Women 
(2018).
     Pill has starred in numerous acclaimed 
films, including Milk (2008), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Midnight in 
Paris (2011), Hail, Caesar! (2016), and Vice (2018). She gained widespread 
recognition for her role as Maggie Jordan in The Newsroom (2012–2014), an HBO 
drama created by Aaron Sorkin.
Her television credits also include In 
Treatment (2009), The Pillars of the Earth (2010), American Horror Story: Cult 
(2017), Devs (2020), and Them (2021). From 2020 to 2022, she portrayed Dr. Agnes 
Jurati in Star Trek: Picard, further solidifying her presence in science 
fiction.
     Pill had been previously engaged to 
actor Jay Baruchel (2011–2013). In 2015, she married Joshua Leonard, an actor 
and filmmaker. The couple welcomed their daughter, Wilder Grace Leonard, in 
2016.
